SM Energy Co. has appointed Ashwin Venkatraman to its board of directors as an independent director and member of the audit committee, according to a Dec. 2 press release.
Venkatraman holds a doctorate in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is the CEO and founder of Resermine Inc., which focuses on subsurface artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions with a focus on EOR.
He has also held various academic positions, including as an associate professor of petroleum and geological engineering at the University of Oklahoma, a postdoctoral fellow in The Institute of Computational & Engineering Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin and as a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University.
Venkatraman "will bring an extensive academic background and business experience in technology, artificial intelligence and engineering specific to the oil and gas industry,” said SM Chairman Julio Quintana. “The SM Energy team aggressively applies data analytics and machine learning into their optimization plans, and Ashwin's expertise will be a valuable addition.”
